31. July - 2. August

During the Bergen Games Festival, Bymuseet i Bergen brings a taste of the atmosphere from the Old Bergen Museum to Torgallmenningen.

How did children play before there were TVs, mobile phones, and video games? Step back in time to an era when imagination was the most important toy!

During the Bergen Games Festival, Bymuseet i Bergen brings a taste of the atmosphere from the Old Bergen Museum to Torgallmenningen. Meet historical interpreters dressed in 19th-century costumes who invite children and adults alike to try fun outdoor games from great-grandma’s day.

Try traditional games such as cat’s cradle, kokeliko, tag, walking on stilts, and many other familiar and lesser-known activities that have brought joy, confidence, and friendship to generations of children. Everyone is welcome to join in – the activities are suitable for both young and old.

Drop in any time between 11:00 – 16:00. Participation is free, and you are welcome to stay as long as you like.

This is a small taste of the experiences you can enjoy at the Old Bergen Museum, where living history, historic surroundings, and hands-on activities transport you back to a time when children played outdoors – together.

Welcome to four days of play, laughter, and living history in the heart of Bergen!
