A Late Summer’s Day at Hordamuseet

23 August

CHILDREN´S MUSEUM
FAMILY EVENT

Experience a day filled with activities, crafts, music and food for the whole family at Hordamuseet's historic farmstead. Build a boat, try your hand at farm work and meet the blacksmith!

Throughout the day, Hordamuseet’s historic farmstead, buildings and cultural landscape come alive with activities, crafts, music and food experiences for the whole family. Among the old buildings you will meet people sharing knowledge, skills and traditions that have shaped life in Western Norway across generations.

Wander between the cluster farms and farmsteads, explore historic environments and meet the teacher, the blacksmith and the postmaster on their home turf. Here children and adults can discover together how people lived, worked and built communities in times gone by.

During the day you can among other things:
· build a boat for the pond
· try farm work and traditional activities
· learn useful knots
· whittle butter knives
· borrow toys on the school playground
· experience crafts and folk art in authentic surroundings

In the cluster farm and Øygardstun you will meet volunteers from Bunadsgruppen i Fana, Vestlandske Folkekunstlag, Bjørgvin Håndverkslag and other tradition bearers. They showcase everything from bunad aprons and textiles to the process from flax plant to finished linen towel.

Food traditions also take centre stage. Watch flatbread being baked, experience butter churning and learn more about old food customs and tools related to cooking and housekeeping. Weather permitting, there will be a bonfire with stick bread where visitors can choose from a variety of herbs.

Fanaduren performs button accordion music around the grounds between 12 and 2 pm, adding to the wonderful atmosphere across the farmsteads.

At the entrance to the open-air museum, Bergen sopp- og nyttevekstforening offers mushroom identification.

In the café in the barn, sour cream porridge is served with cured meats and juice, along with lefse, cream cakes and hot and cold drinks. You will also find this year’s small Løebutikk shop.

Late Summer’s Day is an opportunity to experience Hordamuseet at perhaps its very best — with open farmsteads, living traditions, wonderful flavours and activities for all ages in beautiful surroundings by the Fanafjord.

Welcome!
