This year we celebrate Hordamuseet’s 80th anniversary with a rich program for the whole family – filled with fun activities, traditional crafts, and living cultural heritage both indoors and outdoors.

Experience a day full of play, learning, and old traditions:

  • Wood carving and an old-fashioned school lesson with outdoor games during recess.

  • Rowing trips on the fjord with Fanafjorden Tradisjonssegling – learn the essential sailor’s knots.

  • Build your own toy boat and launch it in the pond, or explore the full-size boats in the Boathouse.

  • Traditional farm activities: try laundry, water carrying, and wood stacking, and meet the farm women carding, spinning, and knitting.

  • The General Store – guess old curiosities and meet the postmaster.

  • Mini-lectures on traditional Norwegian costumes by the Fana Bunad Group, showcasing the rich history of the Fanabunad.

  • Pop-up exhibition: Tidemann in Miniature – 20 handmade figurines in folk costumes by textile artist Britt Kjellesvik Rage, inspired by Adolph Tidemand’s 19th-century studies of West Norwegian folk dress.

  • Jubilee walking tour at 12:00: Join Espen Kutschera for a guided walk through 80 years of Hordamuseet’s history, from its founding in 1945 to the present day. The tour begins in Klyngetunet, continues through the open-air museum with selected buildings and monuments, and ends in the Boathall.

Bergen Mushroom and Useful Plant Society offers free mushroom inspections from 12:00 to 14:00 for those who have been foraging before their visit.

Café and grill: Enjoy local food and drinks in the café.

Transport: A vintage bus runs round-trip between Lagunen and the museum at Stend Station. From there, it’s a short walk via Stend Upper Secondary School to Hordamuseet. Separate ticket required.
