Bergen Medieval Festival 2024 warmly invites both the young and the young at heart to embark on a magical journey back to the Middle Ages, where the entire family can experience what life was like centuries ago. The festival will take place on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, with activities running from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. Enjoy a wide array of activities, performances, and market stalls that cater to children of all ages.

The day kicks off with a grand opening ceremony at Paradeplassen at 11:00 AM. Children are invited to join in the exciting ceremony before the festival unfolds with numerous experiences.

Throughout the day, the festival grounds will be alive with music and entertainment. Canardus will set the tone from the start, while Vifill will play music that’s sure to bring a smile to every face. Mentholatum will further enhance the atmosphere with their enchanting tunes.

There’s plenty to discover for curious children. The 1274 Court School offers a fascinating glimpse into court life, while the underground walk promises an air of adventure and mystery. The Fairy Tale Game on the Lawn and the story time in the Banquet Tent are ideal for kids who love tales and imagination.

The Rosenkrantz Tower is a must-visit for adventurous children, where they can climb to the top and take in views of the city. Musical performances inside the tower will also captivate young visitors.

At Håkon’s Hall, children can try their hand at writing with pen and ink, and learn about bookbinding and calligraphy. They can also listen to readings from Magnus Lagabøte’s Code of Law, transporting them back to medieval times.

At Paradeplassen, the medieval market awaits, where children can watch skilled artisans like blacksmiths, stonemasons, and coopers at work. Here, they can also try their hand at games and even discover how medieval food was made.

The Commandant’s Apple Orchard and the Lawn are brimming with action-packed activities for active children. They can practice archery, watch a mini trebuchet (catapult) in action, and engage in sword fighting in a safe and fun arena.

The Banquet Tent offers a cozy café called “The Glorious Law,” where the whole family can relax and enjoy a snack while listening to music.

On Saturday evening, the festival concludes with a grand feast, beginning at 6:00 PM and lasting until midnight. Dinner will be served from 7:00 PM, and after 8:00 PM, everyone is welcome to join the celebration. The Banquet Tent will also have a small shop offering drinking cups, jewelry, and other fun souvenirs.
