Det var biler i byen lenge før dette, den første begravelsesbilen kom i 1935, men i en overgangsfase er både biler og vogner blitt brukt, før bilen tok helt over. Både første og andre verdenskrig gav vognmennene et oppsving før virksomheten dabbet helt av.

Våren 2021 ble det flyttet tre begravelsesvogner fra svært dårlige lokaler på Gamle Bergen til Hordamuseet. Men hvor lett er det egentlig å flytte slike massive antikvariske gjenstander? Hva skal til for å bevare slike gjenstander for ettertiden?
I disse fire bakomfilmene kan du følge Bymuseets samlingsavdeling og Bevaringstenestene fra Museumssenteret i Hordaland sitt arbeid med de vakre likvognene, og få et innblikk i en del av museumsarbeid som vanligvis ikke publikum får ta del i.
Filmene ble produsert i forbindelse med et prosjekt med støtte fra Kulturdirektoratet om digital samlingsformidling på Hordamuseet.
Begravelsesvogner fra 1840 og slutten av 1800-tallet til begynnelsen av 1900-tallet stod i et svært dårlig lager på Gamle Bergen Museum. De risikerte å bli helt ødelagt hvis de ikke ble flyttet til bedre lokaler på Hordamuseet. Hils på våre dyktige ansatte og hør historien om vognene, hvordan man tar vare på slike gjenstander, og hvordan man flytter så store og skjøre gjenstander uten å ødelegge dem.

Vognene kommer ut fra lageret for første gang på 35 år, og er klar for en nervepirrende etappe på et lasteplan. Gjenstander blir ofte tatt vare på i midlertidige lager i mange år, nå er det endelig de fantastiske begravelsesvognenes tur til å få et skikkelig oppholdssted! På Hordamuseet vil de kunne være med på å fortelle historier om vognmennenes liv, hestenes plass i storbyen og tradisjoner ved begravelser. Se historien om den krevende flyttingen her:
Vognene har stått i 4 måneder under jevnlig overvåkning for å akklimatisere seg til det nye lokalet på Hordamueet for en mest mulig skånsom overgang. Cancellation policy:
Visits within regular opening hours: If cancelled later than 48 hours in advance customer pays 25 % of the entrance fee. Latest change of pax 24 hours in advance.
Visits outside regular opening hours: If cancelled with 14 day’s notice, free of charge, otherwise no refund of additional fees. If cancelled later than 48 hours customer pays 25 % of entrance fee.
