Magnus Lagabøtes Bylov fra 1276 beskriver hvordan håndverkerne skulle plasseres langs «Øvrestretet», gaten som omtrentlig tilsvarer dagens Øvregaten.
I 2024 og 2025 har NIKU gjennomført arkeologiske undersøkelser i gaten i forbindelse med oppgradering av hovedvannledningen. Det arbeides kontinuerlig med analyser av det arkeologiske materialet, og i foredraget blir de nyeste resultatene fra de arkeologiske undersøkelsene presentert.
Det er påvist både graver og mulige rester etter hus og gatedekker, i tillegg til strukturer som arkeologene fremdeles arbeider med å tolke.
Hva er alderen på funnene som er påvist ved undersøkelsen, hvilke gjenstander er funnet, og hvordan stemmer resultater fra undersøkelsen med bestemmelsene i lovverket?
Mona Karin Boge har mastergrad i arkeologi fra Universitet i Bergen, samt en bachelor i geologi. Hun begynte med feltarkeologi i NIKU i 2018, og jobbet med arkeologi for Universitetsmuseet i Bergen mellom 2019 og 2022. Hun har igjennom sitt arbeid tilegnet seg erfaring fra periodene mellom eldre steinalder til middelalder. Mona er opptatt av tverrfaglighet og sammenhengen mellom arkeologi og andre naturvitenskaplige fagdisipliner, slik som biologi, zoologi og geologi. Hennes interesser omfatter blant annet beinmateriale, matkultur, økonomisk skifte og levevilkår på Island og Grønland fra landnåmstid til middelalder.
Ambjørg Reinsnos er arkeolog og kontorleder ved NIKUs kontor i Bergen. Som kontorleder koordinerer hun prosjektlederne for den arkeologiske overvåknings- og utgravningsvirksomheten i middelalderbyene Bergen og Stavanger, og ved undersøkelser på middelalderske kirkegårder og ruiner i fylkene Rogaland, Vestland og deler av Møre og Romsdal (Sunnmøre). Hun arbeider også med saksbehandling, prosjektledelse og gjennomføring av arkeologiske undersøkelser. Reinsnos er cand. philol. i middelalderarkeologi fra Universitetet i Bergen. Hun har tidligere arbeidet i Vestland fylkeskommune, blant annet med skilting og formidling av kulturminner, middelalderruiner, brearkeologi og registreringer på høyfjellet. Hun har bred arkeologisk felterfaring fra både registreringsarbeid i fylkeskommuner og utgravningsprosjekt ved museer, i tillegg til ulike prosjekt i NIKU. Reinsnos har god planfaglig kompetanse, og har tidligere arbeidet som prosjektleder for utarbeidelse av reguleringsplaner og konsekvensutredninger i privat konsulentfirma.

Visits within regular opening hours: If cancelled later than 48 hours in advance customer pays 25 % of the entrance fee. Latest change of pax 24 hours in advance.
Visits outside regular opening hours: If cancelled with 14 day’s notice, free of charge, otherwise no refund of additional fees. If cancelled later than 48 hours customer pays 25 % of entrance fee.
